Today, 31 March 2026, marks the final day of screenings at Cinema Star – Grand Baie La Croisette. After years of lighting up screens across Mauritius, the curtain officially falls on one of the island’s most familiar cinema names.
From Blockbusters to Memories at Cinema Star
Long before streaming took over, Cinema Star was where the magic happened.
For some, their very first cinema memory started there. Watching a movie on the big screen, then heading to Kiddyland right after.
Others think back to the golden era of films that filled those halls – Titanic, Jurassic Park, Men in Black, The Mummy, Anaconda, K3G, American Pie.
And more recently, it’s where crowds gathered for the big moments on screen – Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Fast & Furious sagas, Avatar, Marjaavaan, Black Panther, Joker, Minions, and so many more.
Cinema Star – More Than Just a Cinema
Over time, Cinema Star grew with its audience. At Grand Baie La Croisette, it became more than just a place to watch films. Comfortable seats, powerful surround sound, and that pre-movie lounge moment overlooking the mall – it turned a simple outing into a full experience.
With five halls and a mix of Hollywood, Bollywood, action, comedy and adventure, it stayed open to everyone. Whether you came for a blockbuster premiere or just a casual night out, it always had something showing.
A Gradual Goodbye
The goodbye didn’t happen all at once.
The Cinema Star at Le Caudan Waterfront screens closed in July 2025. Star Bagatelle followed in January 2026. And now, today, Grand Baie La Croisette marks the final chapter.
No official reason has been shared for the closures. But what’s clear is the place Cinema Star held in people’s lives.
One Last Time at Cinema Star Mauritius
This final week wasn’t about new releases. It was about coming back. Sitting in those familiar seats. Watching one more film, just for the feeling of it.
And now, it’s time.
Cinema Star signs off today – but the memories stay.
